Getting around the hotel

During your stay at a hotel or beyond, the different means of transport you'll be using don't have the same impact on the environment, nor do they have the same comfort features. Here are a few tips to help you get around more comfortably and with less impact on the environment.

1. Public transport (bus, train)

Use Txik Txak buses to get around the Basque country. To reach Hendaye or Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the TER train is a good option. The electric Tram'bus is ideal for getting around Bayonne in an eco-responsible way. Find out more about timetables and mobile applications to optimize your journeys (e.g. Citymapper, Moovit, Txik Txak).

- The Labordotte bus stop (650m away) serves line N4 (Pétricot, Port Vieux, Biarritz town center) -> here

2. Bicycle or scooter (classic or electric)

Renting an electric bike, or opting for the blue "Pony" two-seater bikes that are self-service everywhere, is an excellent option for getting around the Basque Country. Cycle paths are well developed, particularly on the Vélodyssée, which runs along the Atlantic coast.

4. Scooters (internal combustion or electric)

The scooter is perfect for driving between the coastal towns of the Basque Country, such as Biarritz, Anglet, Bayonne and Saint-Jean-de-Luz. It allows you to avoid summer traffic jams and enjoy great freedom of movement.

- Go for electric scooters: several rental agencies offer them, especially in Biarritz.
- Always wear a helmet and make sure you have adequate insurance.
- For longer trips (e.g. to Espelette, the Corniche Basque or even San Sebastian), be sure to check the range of your electric scooter.
- Avoid winding mountain roads in bad weather if you're not experienced.
- If you're riding for two, be careful about passenger comfort: not all models are equally suitable.

5. The train

Take the TER to Hendaye and cross into Spain with the Topo to San Sebastian. The Paris-Bordeaux-Bayonne TGV is the best alternative to flying. For a picturesque adventure, take the Petit Train de la Rhune!

6. The car

If you need to rent a car, opt for a hybrid or electric one. Charging stations are available in Biarritz, Bayonne and Saint-Jean-de- Luz. Use car-sharing services to avoid unnecessary long rentals (e.g. Getaround, Free2Move). Opt for carpooling whenever possible to reduce ecological impact and costs (e.g. Blablacar, Karos, La Roue Verte, Mobicoop).

7. Cab or VTC

VTCs are not as well-developed as in Paris, but some services operate in Biarritz during the high season. For local trips, book a traditional cab. Electric or hybrid vehicles are preferred whenever possible.

8. The plane

Biarritz-Pays Basque airport offers flights to Paris, Lyon, London and Madrid, but if you're coming from Paris, Bordeaux or Toulouse, take the train - it'll take less time!
